The Woodlands Mall

The Woodlands Mall is an indoor shopping center that spans two stories and houses more than 165 different retailers and retail establishments all under one roof. Residents of northern Houston, Harris County, and Montgomery County may get their shopping done at The Woodlands Mall.

The Mall first opened its doors in 1994, and since then, it has undergone continual renovations and expansions, all with the goal of providing its consumers with the widest possible assortment of retail goods. The department stores Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, Sears, and Macy’s, as well as Forever 21, currently serve as the center’s anchors.

Since The Woodlands Mall first opened its doors, there have been three modifications to its anchor stores.

In 2005, Mervyn’s shut down all of its sites around the Greater Houston area, and the company as a whole went bankrupt in 2008. Both the Woodlands Children’s Museum and the Woodlands Xploration Station, the latter of which was a satellite facility of the Houston Museum of Natural Science, occupied the space that formerly belonged to Mervyn until August 2010, when it was replaced by the largest Forever 21 location in the Greater Houston area.

As a result of Federated Department Stores acquiring Foley’s parent company, May Department Stores, in September of 2006, another of the mall’s original anchors, Foley’s, a department store established in Houston, was rebranded as a Macy’s location.

After giving its lease back to the owner of the shopping center, department store Sears decided to close its location at The Woodlands Mall at the beginning of 2013. Sears was one of the original joint developers of the shopping center. In September 2014, Nordstrom opened its second full-service site in the Houston area along with numerous new speciality stores. Some of the new specialty businesses were located in new specialty space that was carved out of the previous Sears store.

The Mall features a food court in addition to a number of restaurants that offer traditional table service as well as other eating options. Market Street, located on the opposite side of the road, offers additional shopping opportunities. The Waterway Taxi and the Waterway Trolley are two modes of transportation that can be used to go about the mall.
