Cagle Recreational Area

The Cagle Recreation Area, located near Conroe, which sits within the Sam Houston National Forest, is a stunning piece of the area’s natural heritage. It is situated on the border of Lake Conroe, which is surrounded by thick lush green forestry of towering pines on all sides. It is a renowned spot for fishing, particularly for bass, catfish, and crappie.

Picnics, boats, and long stralls along the trails are all wonderful things to do in this area. The Lone Star Hiking Trail stretches for 128.2 miles and it cuts through the forest; experienced hikers are encouraged to visit the forest and hike the trail. There are trail marker signs that will direct you all the way to several access sites.

This is a serene area that is perfect for bird watching, and it also offers convenient access for launching canoes and boats. In the Cagle Recreation Area, visitors frequently pitch their tents. There are two camping loops with plenty of room, as well as 47 RV sites that come with full hook-ups.

Anglers are drawn to Lake Conroe’s 21,000 acres given the lake’s heavily wooded shore-line and its expansive body of water. The lake is famous for its black bass, and fishing may be done there throughout the year. Although swimming is not permitted, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and wading along the shoreline are all activities that are likely to keep children entertained for hours. Within the facility is a trail that is two miles long and is suitable for mountain biking and hiking. Find out more information about the activities that may be enjoyed in the national forest.

The campground features 2 separate loops, each of which contains sites that are equipped with full-service hook-ups. Each of the loops features facilities with flush toilets, basins, and hot showers, as well as campsites with views of Lake Conroe. In addition, there is a boat ramp at this facility, as well as a huge parking lot, trails for hiking and biking, and a picnic area with a view of the lake.

Lantern posts, Tent pads, and fire rings are provided at each and every site, in addition to clean drinking water, electricity, and sewer hook-ups. There is a minimum 48-hour notice requirement for making reservations at any of the locations, which can be done either by visiting the website www.recreation.gov or by dialing 877-444-6777.
